General information

The Azerbaijan State Art Gallery was created by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan during the period of National Leader Heydar Aliyev's leadership in 1972 on the base of the Azerbaijan State Exhibition Hall, functioning since 1960. In recent years, thanks to the resources of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, modern art and decorative art samples with high artistic quality have been collected  at the fund.

 

The Gallery organizes events regularly in various enterprises and organizations and in state painting galleries operating in the regions.

 

Creativity workshops, master classes and travelling  art exhibitions of artists are organized to increase interest in fine art in the regions and to discover new talents. Scientists of the gallery carry out collection of information about exhibitions, exploration of thecompetitions, scientific studies of paintings and artists.

 

The main activities of the Gallery are as follows :

The gallery participates in the formulation and implementation of a single state policy in the relevant area;

Prepares analytical materials on the current status and perspectives of descriptive and decorative-applied art, develops recommendations for their development and presents them to the Ministry;

 

The Gallery carries out the search and formation of cultural and aesthetic forms based on rich traditions of national art in the preservation and restoration of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan.

 

The vast majority of exhibitions in Azerbaijan and abroad are mainly composed of works kept in the fund of the Azerbaijan State Art Gallery.The Azerbaijan State Art Gallery preserves paintings, graphics, sculptures, decorative-applied art works and contemporary art from more than 10000 unique art pieces created by Azerbaijani artists.
