
General information
The Azerbaijan State Art Gallery was established in 1972 by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan under the leadership of national leader Heydar Aliyev on the basis of the Azerbaijan State Exhibition Hall, which has been operating since 1960.
The State Art Gallery of Azerbaijan is of special importance for the preservation, promotion and development of national art.
The activities of art gallery also play an important role in developing the creativity of national artists, disseminating national culture, promoting and valuing aesthetic education and creative spirit.
The main tasks of the Gallery are to organize the in-depth study and research of cultural heritage, to acquire, collect, catalogue, preserve, publish and exhibit materials in these areas, to take measures and prepare proposals in these areas. In recent years, contemporary fine arts and decorative art of high artistic quality have been gathering in the background. The gallery's collection includes thousands of works in painting, graphics, sculpture and applied arts. Each of these works is unique, reflecting its period, artistic features and the author's worldview. They are important not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also from a historical and scientific point of view. Through the works in the collection, it is possible to explore the various phases of art history and follow the formation of national art schools.
The gallery's activities are outlined as follows:
•scientific research, systematization and electronic cataloguing of cultural property in the Gallery's own fund and in other state art galleries, the Gallery's control over the organization of the accounting and storage of funds, as well as the registration of works stored in the funds of state art galleries in a single electronic catalogue;
•restoration of cultural heritage;
•to conduct scientific research in line with the scientific aspects of fine and decorative-applied arts;
•ordering the creation of works of fine and decorative-applied arts of high artistic value, organizing competitions and festivals for this purpose;
•preparation of analytical materials on the current state and development prospects of the field of fine and decorative-applied arts, preparation of proposals for their development and submission to the Ministry;
In the preservation and restoration of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan, the Gallery is engaged in the research and creation of cultural-aesthetic forms based on the rich traditions of national art
